Estonia to acquire power-grid operator from Eesti Energia

Estonian government will buy the country’s power transmission system operator from Eesti Energia, the biggest Baltic electric utility, for 2.1 billion krooni, Bloomberg reports.

There are “several options” to finance the purchase of OU Elering, the Cabinet said in a statement late yesterday. The move is dictated by the European Union requirement to separate the ownership of power grids from electricity production and sales, it said.

The transaction, which is due to be completed by the end of the year, will not increase Estonia’s budget deficit, the government said.
